The PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge: Week 6

PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge

Summertime is really getting hot, but it is also time for some cool fun with the PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge. During the week of July 9-13, special programming will feature The Electric Company and it’s new Prankster Planet! This The Electric Company program and online destination offers 6-9 year old children a hip portal into the world of literacy. While it is really fun to play, the backbone of the program remains literacy with a curriculum of vocabulary, phonics and comprehension of connected text.

The episodes airing this week include:

“The Limerick Slam” – July 9 (encore presentation on July 13)

“Fromage Here to Eternity” – July 10

“Electric Accompany” – July 11

“A Whole New Francine” – July 12

Be sure to tune in for The Electric Company Monday through Friday at 5:00 p.m. on WCVE PBS/WHTJ PBS or on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. on WCVW PBS.

I am a fifth grade Language Arts teacher in Buckingham VA and I LOVE this show!!!!! I would like for my class to watch the Electric Company, but I do not know if this is possible.
Thanks,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I am thrilled that you want to use The Electric Company with your classes. It is my understanding that you have rights to record that program and use it for educational purposes for one year. Your library media specialist may be able to help you with recording the series so that it is available at convenient times for you. The Teacher section of The Electric Company's website has additional lesson plans and activities that you might find helpful too. Please email me at preed@ideastations.org for more information. Best wishes for a great school year!

Hi Kelly - The Electric Company has a site where you can watch show clips, play games and take part in other activities. Check it out here: http://pbskids.org/electriccompany/#/Home/

Hope this helps.
